Hairstylist and Designer Larry Dunlap has worked his magic for over 30 years in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. Having most recently spent five years as co-owner/stylist and general manager of two Haircolorxperts salons, Larry decided to take a step back from the hectic pace he was keeping to focus on his passion for hair design.
Larry is a father and husband and is active as a make-up artist and
educator, while
still maintaining a busy clientele.
Born in 1957 in Chadsford, Pennsylvania , Larry moved to North Carolina at age three. While attending public school in Garner, North Carolina, Larry excelled as an artist and was selected as one of two students in Wake County to participate in an advanced fine arts curriculum. This led to work as a free lance illustrator, one man art shows and numerous art awards. Larry still pursues painting and fine art in his (somewhat limited) spare time. “The more I study painting, color theory and artistic anatomy; the more I find that it improves my abilities as a hair designer and make-up artist”. “The two interests dovetail nicely”.
For a hairstylist developing his skills during the early 80”s, Raleigh was a great town to be in. “I had the benefit of working and training with a number of talented designers. Raleigh had a group of established professionals that had all been involved in national and international competitions, with skills that combined the old 50’s and 60’s shampoo set styles with edgy, modern trends”.
During the course of his career, Larry has been fortunate enough to have trained with many of the worlds top stylists and make-up artists. Among them are two time world champion stylist, Costas Melissaris; renowned editorial and celebrity stylists, Sandra and Christopher Dove; educator and co-founder of the Vidal Sassoon Academies, Tony Beckerman; film and print make-up artist Berry Berger; and international competition trainer, Ronnie Hawkins.
